Specialty Screw Corp. was fortunate to receive a grant through our electrical energy provider, Exelon, and facilitated by our electrical component supplier, Steiner Electric, that paid for approximately 25% of the material and labor cost in retro fitting our T12 florescent lamps with the more energy efficient new electronic ballasts, reflectors and T8 florescent lamps. This reduced our energy load for those lamps by 50%, that equates to a 2.37-year payback. In addition in our shipping/receiving area, we replaced six (6) metal halide lamps of 400 watt output each with six lamp florescent fixtures of 192 watt per fixture.
Also, in our low traffic raw material warehouse area, we incorporated with each retro fitted florescent fixture a motion sensor resulting in even greater energy savings. Specialty did the full retro fitting in our offices and plant in three phases to minimize our cash flow requirements. The retro fitting was accomplished with minimal disruption to the work areas, and besides the energy savings, we will have less ongoing maintenance of the plant lighting, because all the fixtures have new ballasts, reflectors and lamps, not to mention the benefit of better illumination for our employees’ work areas.
